Despite being 18-3 down midway through the second half, Dungannon put in an admirable last quarter performance to retain the Shiells Cup.
However, let’s not get carried away, this was a far from perfect performance at times.
Old Crescent kicked off with a firm breeze behind them at Takuni Park, Limerick. Dungannon were lively in the opening period and this pressure paid off when Peter Nelson slotted over a penalty after Crescent were caught offside.
The same player made a clean break and when Crescent were penalised for a high tackle, the 5 metre line out was lost, the first of several in the game.
An Andrew McGregor cross kick gained the visitors a lot of territory and came to nothing as did a McGregor charge down deep in the opponents half.
A midfield break by the Crescent number 6 Cillian Toland was well supported with Joe McEnery getting the touchdown for an uncovered try, score 5-3.
