THE REARRANGED fixture between the Valley and Rainey took place on Saturday and despite the distraction of Ireland's Six Nations game in Cardiff several hundred turned up to cheer on their heroes.

With Matthew Bothwell side-lined Ewan Haire started at scrum half and Neill Trotter was drafted in for cover on the bench.

This was not a classic but a workman like performance from the Valley saw them enhance their third place league position by four points while denying fourth place Rainey any points at all.

The Valley started well moving the ball crisply from deep but it was Rainey who would strike first. An attempted off-load was spilled and as it hit the ground a Rainey winger hacked it forward chased it down gathered it up and dived over in the corner for an opportunist try.

The touchline conversion was missed but seven minutes in the Valley were five points down.
