Cookstown Primary School pupil Boyd Knipe is the 2024 Road Racing Ireland Junior Gearbox champion in the Irish Minibike Championship series.
In perfect racing conditions at Athboy on Saturday, he just needed 5th overall to secure the championship, but, as he has done throughout the season, P6 scholar Boyd stamped his authority on the championship when, for the sixth time this year, was quickest in the warm-up, qualified in pole position before going on to dominate each of his three races!
This year, with one round to go, nine-year-old Boyd has won 21 races from 26 starts, finishing second in the other five races.
He stood on the top step of the podium on no less than eight occasions from nine meetings.
Motorcycling has run in the Knipe family, with his grandfather a popular supporter of the sport who sponsored many local competitors. His son Richard raced for quite a few years before hanging up the leathers.
