Tyrone’s big two meet in a derby spectacle on Sunday when St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon and Omagh CBS will battle it out in the Danske Bank MacRory Cup final as they contest the most lucrative prize in Ulster Schools football.
The Centenary decider sees the competition reach a significant milestone, and the Box-It Athletic Grounds in Armagh provides the perfect setting for a very special occasion.
Holders Omagh are bidding to secure back-to-back titles for the first time in the schools history, but Dungannon go in with a firm belief thatthey can dethrone the champions.
Both sides came through right semi-finals by a single point, with the Academy defeating local rivals St Joseph’s Donaghmore and the CBS side getting the better of St Mary’s Magherafelt.
Their quarter-final ties were also cliff-hangers, St Patrick’s needing a penalty shoot-out to make it through against Patrician Carrickmacross, while the holders had a one point margin in their eliminator against Our Lady Castleblaney.
And another close contest is anticipated this weekend as the province’s two best teams go head to head.
