A 7-3 lead at half time looked insufficient for Dungannon since Galwegians would have the benefit of the strong wind in the second half.

However, they defied the odds to dig in and produce a second half performance of grit and determination in the very cold, windy and wet conditions at Crowley Park on Saturday.

Dungannon kicked off, using the wind to good effect pinning the home side in their 22. After five minutes James Gamble was assisted in his barge over for the opening score with Ben McCaughey adding the conversion. 0-7.

The visitors had another opportunity but the poor quality ball from the retreating five metre scrum meant the attack petered out. An early nose injury to the abrasive David Leyburn forced his retirement and this did blunt the Dungannon game.
