Dungannon progressed into the semi-final of the Bank of Ireland Senior Cup after a 40-35 win away to Ballyclare.
This was an entertaining game; whilst the scoreline shows a difference of only five points Dungannon were shamefully generous and at times wasteful. Ballyclare were very competitive and took advantage of every opportunity.
Dungannon opened the scoring after 10 minutes when following some constructive pressure winger Mervyn Brown finished off the move when he skipped inside two defenders to touch down.
Peter Nelson converted with a good kick. After 17 minutes Ballyclare took advantage of good field position to drive over for a converted try.
At the restart Ballyclare infringed and from the resultant penalty lineout 10 metres out Nelson and McGregor created a great scoring opportunity that was lost by carelessness.
