Dungannon RFC chairperson Cheryl Wilson shortlisted for prestigious new award

Dungannon RFC’s chairperson of rugby and ladies XV stalwart Cheryl Wilson was shortlisted for the Unsung Heroine category of the inaugural Local Women Sport Awards which were presented at Belfast’s Europa Hotel last Friday night.

Believed to be the only female in a comparable position in the province and the first in Dungannon’s history, trailblazer Wilson has been in this role for nearly three years and is making a considerable impact.

She also still runs the women’s section of the club, which she established around the middle of last decade and, although she stepped down as captain of the female First XV at the end of last season, continues to line out for the team in spite of turning 44 last month.

The dedicated Cheryl commits a lot of time to the club and has filled several roles with the men’s 2nd XV and 3rd XV while working to develop suitably sustainable management arrangements for both teams moving forward.
