MUCH has been made of Dungannon's sporting clubs recent successes, with Dungannon Hockey Club, Dungannon Rugby Club and Dungannon Swifts all reaching major finals.
On Saturday, Dungannon Hockey Club, coached by Norman Purdy, achieved victory in the first of the local clubs' finals, taking home the Irish Hockey Challenge Cup after beating Instonians 2-1.
The victory marks the first time the club has lifted the trophy since it was established in 2008.
In a close fought encounter at Playball, Stormont, Karen Elliott managed to score both goals to secure victory for the club, helped in large part by goalie Anna McKeown, who made some fantastic saves under pressure.
Nicola Cardwell, chair of Dungannon Hockey Club, told the Courier:
“We were the first team up with all these finals, and we were delighted to set the standard for the rest of the clubs!
“It was a really tough game, so we were delighted to get the win.”
