It was standing room only at Donaghmore Heritage Centre as Dr Rob Goodbody delivered a fascinating talk on Quaker Relief in the Great Famine to launch the new season of events by Donaghmore Historical Society.
The event drew a capacity crowd, with many more joining online including early risers tuning in from as far away as Australia.
Dr Goodbody’s engaging and deeply researched talk explored how the Quakers’ practical compassion reached communities across Ireland, including here in County Tyrone, during one of the country’s darkest chapters.
Chair Mary MacGinty described it as “a local talk with a global story,” adding that the response had been “”phenomenal, one of those evenings that reminds you why local history matters.”
