A number of local representatives have this morning condemned an armed robbery in Aughnacloy.

Police say a group of males, wearing boiler suits and masks, armed with suspected firearms threatened security staff who had been attending an ATM at a filling station on the Caledon Road, Aughnacloy.

“The group ordered staff into the ATM bunker then removed cash boxes from the security van and the ATM before making off from the scene in a dark coloured vehicle, with a significant sum of cash.

Deborah Erskine, DUP MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone said,
"This morning I have been liaising with Police regarding a cash in transit, armed robbery at Aughnacloy Spar. Thankfully nobody was injured but this would have been an extremely frightening experience for staff.
"It is shocking that a local business has been targeted in this way. Businesses in our rural towns provide an essential service and for thieves to wreck and destroy this is deplorable.
"I know the local community of Aughnacloy will rally behind those affected by this terrible incident. I therefore urge anyone with any information to bring it forward to the PSNI."
Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew said:
"I condemn the armed robbery of a cash in transit van in Aughnacloy this morning.
"This was a disgraceful incident, and I strongly condemn it.
"My thoughts are with the workers caught up in it, who will no doubt be left frightened by this attack.
"Anyone with information should contact the police."
