This Saturday 31st May sees the first visits to Kirkistown Race Circuit this year of the wonderful Legend race cars and the amazing Superkarts.

The Superkarts have the biggest entry seen in years at Kirkistown, with seventeen in total, over two classes, in three races. Aaron Newell, from Ballygowan, is coming off a clean sweep in the 250cc class at the recent Bishopscourt meeting. His main rivals will be Brian Jones, from Craigavon, Liam Fox, from Moira, and Colin Menary, from Bangor, to name three, among many more. In the 125cc class, watch out for Noel Lindsay, from Hillsborough, his brother-in-law, Geoffrey Simms, from Armagh, and Scott Greenaway, from Armagh, among many others. The Superkarts will be the fastest machines at the meeting and will be eye-watering to watch, particularly at the top end of the circuit, from Colonial One to the John Crosslé Chicane.

The Legends are 5/8th scale, silhouette replicas of 1930s American Stock Cars, with 1200cc engines. They are, mostly, brightly liveried and are very equal in performance, making for great racing. There are thirteen entered in three races. It would be hard to predict the winners but Dublin’s Michael Barrible and Gordon Brown, Kilkenny’s Scott Jackson, Ballymena’s Richard Spence and Dunboyne’s Lee Malone are all worth keeping an eye on. An unknown quantity is Nico Frank, an experienced driver from Berlin!

There are twelve entered for two NI FF1600 races. David McCullough, from Ballymena, missed the last meeting. He is back this time and raring to go! Ricky Simpson is back, all the way from Apple Valley in California! He drove well last time, bothering the regulars. Dave Parks, from Ballina, is always at the sharp end. However, the man who is hot at the moment is Ronan Doherty, from Dunloy. He dominated the opposition at the April meeting and will be wanting a repeat performance again.

The second American visitor is Aidan Mulready, from New York City. He has been the man to beat in the Kirkistown Fiestas recently. Neville Anderson, from Banbridge, has come closest and will be looking for at least one win this time. Conor Mulholland, from Newtownabbey, will push these two hard. The Kirkistown Mini Coopers will sharing the grid with the Fiestas. A small field will see very close racing between the Gilmore brothers, Craig, from Ballyhalbert, and Darren, from Lisnaskea, and Ballyclare’s Taylor Frizzell.

The combined Libre Saloons and Roadsports races have some very quick drivers entered. Peter Baxter, from Lurgan, is out in his fast Seat. Veteran, Arnie Black, from Banbridge, has entered his Crosslé 37S, while Bernard Foley, from Blackrock, is back in his Crosslé 42S. The man who should just be ahead is Jim Larkham, from Newtownabbey, in his Radical Pro6.

Qualifying starts at 9:00am, with the first of twelve races at 10:40am.
