Caledon school is earmarked to close

A primary school in Caledon has been earmarked for closure and the news has led to fears of the impact it will have on the local community.

St Joseph's Primary, based at Derrycourtney Road, has been described as“unsustainable” by the Catholic Council for Maintained Schools and it is proposed that the local school will close at the end of the Summer term on August 31, 2027, or “as soon as possible thereafter”.

Initial plans were to close the school in August 2026 but that has been put off until the following year.
