TRADERS in Dungannon have issued an open letter to Mid-Ulster Council over controversial plans to redevelop a section of the town centre.

On Thursday evening a delegation of traders attended a Mid-Ulster Council meeting to submit the letter and to pose a number of questions in relation to the current state of Dungannon town centre.

The move has been sparked by the recent approval of plans to redevelop the Scotch Street area of the town.

The former Fort Bar and Salt nightclub will be knocked down along with several adjacent buildings as part of the plans.

Plans for the streetscape revamp, which will see three retail units and 16 apartments built in lieu of the existing street-fronting buildings at 5 – 19 Scotch Street, were approved at a recent Planning committee meeting of Mid-Ulster District Council.
