MORE THAN 64,000 poultry are to be culled after a suspected outbreak of avian flu in Tyrone.
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) confirmed that disease control measures had been initiated at a commercial poultry facility near Dungannon.
The Courier understands the poultry facility is located between Donaghey and Cookstown.
The measures have been initiated following suspicion of notifiable highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), at the premises.
The Chief Veterinary Officer for Northern Ireland (NI), Brian Dooher, has taken the decision based on number of factors including the clinical signs and preliminary results provided by the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI).
