This was the last major of the year at the club and with a very full time sheet and a great array of prizes provided by the President, the day was set to be a good one.

President Felix and his family were evident from early morning with tea/coffee and a survival bag for each competitor at the first and again at the 10th when all were treated to a barbecue, which went down a real treat.

The course was in excellent condition and with the weather good for golf the scene was set for high scores.

Hammy Johnston

It is of great regret that we record the passing of ex President Hammy Johnston during the week. Following an illness, Hammy passed away in hospital and will be greatly missed at the Club.

In his day he was a very capable golfer, achieving and remaining a single figure handicap for many years. A very knowledgeable man, he knew the golf rule book backwards and was always on hand to teach and improve other club member’s golfing skills.

Current and Past Captains and Presidents formed a guard of honour for Hammy on his last journey at Roselawn Cemetery after which they returned to Aughnacloy Golf Club with the family, where they joined others for a cup of tea.

We will miss you.
