It’s quarter-final weekend in the Connollys of Moy Tyrone Senior Championship, with four mouth-watering eliminators set to bring the race for the O’Neill Cup to a critical phase.
The tie of the round sees 2020 champions Dungannon face 2021 winners Dromore in a fascinating encounter at Dunmoyle on Sunday, both clubs with fervent belief that they can emerge triumphant again this year.
Dungannon saw off neighbours Eglish in a derby encounter played out in dreadful weather conditions at Edendork on Sunday, with Paul Donaghy hitting eight points in the 1-10 to 0-4 success.
Dromore also had to cope with challenging conditions at Carrickmore, where they edged out Galbally by 1-8 to 2-3 in a tense contest, with their goalkeeper Mark McGale pulling off a string of brilliant saves to deny the Pearses.
“The job of any team in the first round is to get to the next round, and it’s good to be in the hat,” said Dungannon manager Chris Rafferty.
“You don’t want to be knocked out in the first round of the Championship, and the year over, so we’ll look forward to the quarter-final.
“But honestly, in Tyrone football, you just play it game by game. You can’t aspire to go too far too soon.”
Dungannon showed style and class despite having to compete with atrocious weather conditions as they efficiently saw off derby rivals Eglish to reach the last-eight.
The rain and wind that buffeted Pairc Arthur Mallon in Edendork were unable to blow the Clarke’s off course, and with Paul Donaghy in clinical form up front, they swept to a comfortable victory.
