PLANS to move the changing block in Aughnacloy from its existing location to the new 3G pitch will cost Mid-Ulster District Council £50,000, it has been revealed.
When the proposal to uplift the existing changing block at Aughnacloy Grass Pitch to Aughnacloy College’s 3G soccer pitch was initially presented to the Council’s Development Committee it was endorsed with the understanding it would cost the council nothing.
However, following discussion with officials from the Education Authority the cost of relocating the block using the EA’s contractor will cost £54,516.88.
Council officers believe that the work could be completed for around £45,000 were Council to manage the project.
The document presented to the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee notes that Council officials recommend approving the tender process noting that the new pitch is well used and would benefit from the arrival of the changing block.
The document also states that moving it from its current location would leave the site available for alternative development opportunities.
It is understood Council are seeking to transform the existing site into a landscaped park including trails, leaving the existing site open to the general public for passive leisure and sporting activities.
The decision to initiate the tender process is expected to receive the backing of full Council at this Thursday’s monthly meeting.
