THERE’S gold in them thar hills – the Sperrins that is – particularly around the areas of Moneymore, Desertmartin and Draperstown.
An Australian mining company looks set to drill in Slieve Gallion, having already found traces of gold in the area.
And while it will lead to major investment and a crucial jobs boost in the area, the gold mining plan is not without controversy.
Walkabout Resources, an African focused energy minerals developer, based in Western Australia and listed on the Australia Securities Exchange, are the latest mining company to conduct sampling work in the Sperrin Mountains after two other exploration groups got the go ahead to extract gold in the county.
